The varsity cheer team (SBVC) is excited and ready to start this year’s competition season. After months of training and preparation, the team is prepped to showcase their skills and school spirit at a series of upcoming events.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the team hosted the annual Spirit Bowl competition. With a score of 231.75 out of 300, SBVC held onto their first place title for a second year in a row. This competition against several local high schools started the team’s season off strong, giving the school a glimpse of what to expect for the remainder of the competitive season.
Under the leadership of their dedicated coaches, the team has been gearing up for the challenges ahead.
“We’re preparing by doing a lot of work both inside and outside of practices,” junior varsity cheerleader Olivia Lindsay said, “We have strength conditioning multiple times a week and team building activities.”
The team’s hard work has created a strong sense of camaraderie among the athletes, generating a supportive environment that will lead to further success. The team is ready to represent the school with pride and enthusiasm, which is just one mark of an exceptional competitive cheer team.
“They know how to sell it,” coach Zachary Cabot said. “They know how to do it. And it’s just fun watching them perform.”
The team’s evident hard work can be seen even in the early stages of the season. Despite the tough competition other schools pose, the team is climbing their way to the top, and bringing the crowds together in the process.
“Our routine this year is much more difficult than it has been in the past,” senior varsity cheerleader Mia Jacobson said. “And, so are our competitors. I am just very excited to compete against them.”
With more competitions on the horizon, the team is committed to refining their skills and supporting each other every step of the way. Fans and supporters are encouraged to come out and join the team in their cheers as they flip and shout their way to victory.
“Just come support the cheerleaders,” Coach Cabot said. “They need it; they feed off of the crowd. And you know they love you guys so much.”
The team’s next competition is Saturday, Oct. 5 in Harrisburg, Virginia. Mini-Districts will be held on Oct. 22 at Briar Woods High School, and regionals are scheduled for Oct. 30 at Independence High School.
