Trailside’s Veteran Spaghetti Dinner

In honor of our nation’s veterans, Trailside Middle School hosted a Veterans Day spaghetti dinner on Nov. 11 for past service members and their families to enjoy.

Decorated with patriotic memorabilia and filled with food, the Trailside cafeteria welcomed veterans for a night of celebration and remembrance. Festivities included a presentation from the Boy Scout Troop 1907 color guard, a moment of silence, a table dedicated to POW/MIA heroes, and a tribute video.

“This is our second year hosting this event. It is sponsored by the TMS PTSA, in coordination with the school,” the Trailside PTSA said. “There is a wonderful partnership between the PTSA and the school. We are grateful for their support and guidance.”

Trailside’s military-friendly reputation has been recognized in the past by its Purple Star designation. Schools must meet a list of requirements in order to be considered for the title, including a built-in support system for military families and regular recognition of said families.

“In 2019, Trailside Middle was the first school in LCPS to receive this designation,” the PSTA said. “TMS just received their renewal and pin this month. A team of teachers, along with the administration, worked collaboratively to receive this honor.”

The event itself was organized and executed by student volunteers, demonstrating their respect for what veterans have done for the United States in an act of community service. Volunteers prepared and served the food, decorated, and recorded the event as a way to honor our nation’s retired soldiers.

“I think the biggest message for tonight is service to your country and service to one another,” Trailside Principal Bridget Beichler said. “… So if we could do anything as a trailside community, it’s really instilling in our children that service to others is really the most invaluable thing that you can do as a human being.”

Although it is only their second year hosting the event, Trailside’s spaghetti dinner demonstrates their commitment to our nation’s veterans. Make time to thank those in your community or family who have served.

“We want to thank our veterans and military families for their sacrifices in service to our nation,” the PTSA said. “They are true heroes and we are proud to recognize them during this special evening.”
