2025 is set to be an exciting year for TV show enthusiasts, with many new and highly anticipated seasons of popular shows set to release.
Below is a list of popular shows scheduled for release in alphabetical order by streaming service:
Based on the three part book series by Jenny Han, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” was renewed on Amazon Prime for a third season back in 2023. The season will consist of eleven episodes, a big difference from the first and second seasons, released in 2022 and 2023, which featured seven and eight episodes. Production on the third season was delayed until 2024 due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG AFTRA strikes in 2023. Han revealed that season three will be focused around Belly’s challenges as she shifts from a teenager to a young adult. Filming took place in May through August of 2024 and is set to be released in the summer.
The second and final season of “Andor” will premiere on April 22 on Disney+. “Andor” is a prequel to the Star Wars film “Rogue One” and takes place five years before the events of the movie. The upcoming season is expected to relate to “Rogue One” in terms of the show’s timeline and characters. The season will have twelve episodes releasing every Tuesday, with showrunner Tony Gikroy confirming that the episodes will be split into four three-episode installments that depict a twelve-month period.
The second season of the post-apocalyptic drama, “The Last of Us” is set to release in the spring on HBO. Season two takes place five years after the first season concluded, and the main characters, Joel and Ellie, are once again stirred into conflict with each other in a world that is even more dangerous and unpredictable than they left it. Co-creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have revealed that the upcoming season has a total of seven episodes, and are planning a third season as the source material is more extensive compared to the first season.
“Ginny & Georgia” will make a comeback to Netflix with its third season premiering on June 5. There are currently no trailers foreshadowing the season, but two images have been released, providing fans insight into the aftermath of the season two cliffhanger. The images shown tease a wild season, showing main character Georgia Miller behind bars. Georgia’s actress, Brianne Howey, hinted at the drama in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” sharing that in season three, fans will see a new side of the characters.
Netflix has confirmed that the third and final season of “Squid Game” will be released on June 27. This announcement was made after the high praise that came from the second season, which was released on Dec. 26, 2024. The second and third seasons were filmed consecutively, reducing the amount of waiting time for fans compared to the first and second seasons that had a gap of over three years. The third season’s storyline will address the intense cliffhanger of season two, and will continue showing protagonist Seong Gi-Hun’s journey as he attempts to stop the deadly games.
“Wednesday” debuted in late November of 2022 and quickly became the most watched English-language series on Netflix. The show, directed by Tim Burton, follows a young goth-obsessed Wednesday Addams and her journey at Nevermore Academy. Netflix announced in May 2024 that production had begun for a second season and had wrapped up in December. The showrunners revealed that the upcoming season takes a “darker” turn as the show will take a deeper dive into the backstories’ the Addams family, as well as introducing a new lineup of characters. A premiere date has not been announced, but it’s confirmed that the season will come out sometime in 2025.
This is not an exhaustive list, but even with what is known, the year is sure to be filled with some of the best that TV shows have to offer.
